Post Winter Roof Maintenance
With the harsh British winter almost over, it will soon be time for essential property maintenance, which would include the roof. For the past few months, the roof has had to endure all kinds of weather, and with that in mind, here are some important things to look for when giving your roof a close visual inspection.
- Broken or Missing Roof Shingles– You will need to inspect all elevations, looking for broken or missing shingles, and should you find a few, the best roofers in Bristol will soon replace them.
- Blocked Guttering– After the winter, the guttering should be cleaned out, as leaves and small twigs will have built up and that will cause water to run down the exterior walls during heavy rain.
- Check the Fascia and Flashing– The lead or aluminium flashing protects the roof around the edge of the shingled area and you should inspect this for signs of damage. If you are not happy working on a ladder, it might be best to leave this to your local roofing contractor, who can inspect the roof and give you a detailed report.
Once the roof has been checked and any repairs carried out, you can rent a power washer for the weekend and give the roof a much needed clean. Once this has been done, you could apply a roof sealant, which would prolong the life of the roof and help maintain a waterproof covering. Preventative maintenance will ensure that you have minimal repairs to carry out.
